Where Telluride Still Eats After Nine This November

During this year's off-season, Telluride's kitchens mostly stop serving at 9 p.m. Smugglers and Stronghouse finish at 8. Brown Dog, Kazahana, Rustico, There. and The National all close at 9 on the nights they're open. Once those kitchens shut, a late dinner or drink in town comes down to three places. Since Oct. 26, the gondola that usually links town to a second set of restaurants has also been parked for maintenance.

Visit Telluride's Off-Season Dining Fall 2026 list is the best map of all this, and the page itself says it is still being updated. Hours shift during shoulder season, so a quick call before you walk over is worth it.

The 9 o'clock cutoff, place by place

Here are the in-town kitchens with published fall hours, sorted by when they stop serving.

Place Address Days Hours
Smugglers Telluride Daily Noon to 8 p.m.
Stronghouse Telluride Wednesday to Sunday Noon to 8 p.m.
Brown Dog 110 E. Colorado Ave. Daily 11:30 a.m. to 9 p.m.
Kazahana 126 E. Colorado Ave. Tuesday to Saturday 5 to 9 p.m.
Rustico 114 E. Colorado Ave. Tuesday to Sunday 5 to 9 p.m.
There. 627 W. Pacific Ave. Wednesday to Sunday, from Oct. 28 4 to 9 p.m.
The National 100 E. Colorado Ave., Suite B Tuesday to Saturday, through Nov. 14 4:30 to 9 p.m.
Van Atta 101 W. Colorado Ave. Daily 1 to 10 p.m. Sunday to Wednesday, 1 to 11 p.m. Thursday to Saturday

That's a lot of good food packed into the dinner hours. Brown Dog makes Detroit-style pizza. Kazahana serves sushi and omakase. Rustico is Italian. The National does Mediterranean-inspired shared plates and has a 10-seat bar. The trouble is that almost all of it runs on the same clock, so getting out of a show, finishing a late drive, or putting kids to bed means arriving after every one of those dining rooms has closed.

The three rooms still open after nine

Van Atta sits behind 101 W. Colorado Ave. Visit Telluride describes it as a speakeasy-style bar and restaurant at the back of the original Main Street building, and it publishes separate food and drink menus. It has the longest posted off-season hours in town: 10 p.m. Sunday through Wednesday and 11 p.m. Thursday through Saturday. It's also the only place in town with set hours that opens at 1 p.m. daily, which makes it a dependable late lunch too.

The Patio at 138 E. Colorado Ave. lists a late-night kitchen, and the fall schedule has it open daily except Nov. 24 to 28. It's in the space above O'Bannon's that used to hold The Bistro, next to the Spruce Street pocket park. When it opened, director of operations Alex Laney said in a Telluride News story that food after 9 o'clock "is definitely an underserved piece of the market." That was true when he said it, and in November it's the main problem with eating out in town. The same story described smash burgers, waffle fries, oysters, charcuterie and a full bar. The fall listing doesn't give closing times, so check before you plan a late meal around it.

Last Dollar Saloon says on its own site that it's open every day from 3 p.m. until late. It's a bar first, so plan for drinks, not a sit-down dinner.

Steamies Burger Bar at 300 W. Colorado Ave. is listed as open daily, serving steamed burgers, hot dogs, fries and shakes at the counter. It doesn't post a fall closing time, so treat it as an early-evening option until you've confirmed.

Why Monday and Tuesday are the hardest nights

The 9 p.m. cutoff isn't the only squeeze. Several kitchens also skip days, and they mostly skip the same ones.

  • Monday: Kazahana, Rustico, The National, There. and Stronghouse are all closed. The places with posted hours are Smugglers until 8, Brown Dog until 9 and Van Atta until 10, plus The Patio, Steamies and Last Dollar.
  • Tuesday: Kazahana and Rustico are back, and so is The National through Nov. 14. There. and Stronghouse stay closed until Wednesday.
  • Sunday: Rustico and There. are open. Kazahana and The National are not.
  • Wednesday through Saturday: Every dinner kitchen on the table above is open until Nov. 14. After that, The National is closed through Dec. 4. Van Atta stays open until 11 starting Thursday.

In practice, a weeknight dinner out at the start of the week means pizza, pub food or a bar menu, unless you get to Rustico or Kazahana before 9 on a Tuesday.

The gondola closure takes Mountain Village off the evening map

In a normal shoulder season, a slow night in town could end with a ride up the hill. This year the gondola is closed for maintenance from Oct. 26 through Nov. 19 and reopens at 6:30 a.m. on Nov. 20. Many Mountain Village restaurants are closed for the same window, including Alloy Kitchen from Oct. 26 to Nov. 19, Tracks Café & Bar from Oct. 23 to Nov. 22, and La Piazza del Villaggio from Oct. 26 to Dec. 2. Crazy Elk Pizza stays open daily, but only from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., so even a drive up won't get you dinner after 9.

Down valley, Telluride Brewing Company's Craft Kitchen & Pizza in Lawson Hill is open Wednesday through Sunday, and the Conoco there is open daily. For anyone without a car, though, Colorado Avenue is the whole evening until Nov. 20.

How the map changes between now and December

Closures are staggered, so the late-night picture changes almost every week. Here's the sequence on Visit Telluride's fall schedule, starting from the week this post goes out.

  1. Oct. 28: There. reopens and keeps Wednesday-to-Sunday hours, 4 to 9 p.m.
  2. Oct. 31: The Grand closes through Dec. 6.
  3. Nov. 14: Last night of The National's fall hours. It's closed Nov. 15 through Dec. 4.
  4. Nov. 16: Last day of Liz's closure, which began Oct. 24.
  5. Nov. 19: Last day of Bruno's closure, which began Oct. 25. The gondola reopens the next morning.
  6. Nov. 21: Floradora Saloon closes through Dec. 4.
  7. Nov. 22: Last closed day for Caravan and La Cocina de Luz, both closed since Oct. 15.
  8. Nov. 24 to 28: The Patio closes for Thanksgiving week. Thanksgiving is Thursday, Nov. 26.
  9. Dec. 3 and 4: Closures end for the New Sheridan Bar, Chop House and Rooftop Bar, then the Coffee Cowboy cart and General Store.
  10. Dec. 10 and beyond: 221 South Oak and La Marmotte are closed through Dec. 10, Sidework through Dec. 17. Kazahana's own site has its off-season hours running through Dec. 13.

Two stretches stand out. The first is Nov. 15 to 19, after The National has closed and before Bruno and the gondola are back. Liz is the only one returning during that week. The second is Thanksgiving week. The Patio, one of the three late rooms, is closed Nov. 24 to 28, and Floradora has been closed since Nov. 21. If you're hosting family that week, Van Atta and Last Dollar are the late options still listed as open.

Plan dinner around the off-season calendar

The town's off-season calendar keeps going after the kitchens close. Visit Telluride lists Young Frankenstein on Oct. 29 to 31, the Halloween Parade on Oct. 30, and both Halloween on the Hill and the KOTO Halloween Bash on Oct. 31. Mountainfilm for Locals follows on Nov. 2 and the Adult Spelling Bee on Nov. 6. The KOTO Ski Swap runs Nov. 13 to 15 at Wilkinson Public Library, 100 W. Pacific Ave., with used gear for sale or donation and discounted passes.

If an evening event lets out after 8:30, eat beforehand, or go straight to Van Atta or The Patio afterward. Daytime is easier. Butcher & The Baker is open 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Sunday. Baked in Telluride and Clark's Market are open daily, and Telluride Truffle runs 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. every day.
