Mountain Village just approved a new hotel – Six Senses Mountain Village – that will accommodate those looking to enjoy a high-end hotel experience near Telluride! Just a gondola ride away from the heart of Telluride and steps away from Telluride Ski Resort, a beautiful lot is proposed to be soon transformed into Mountain Village's newest and trendiest mountain resort experience.

Originally established to meet the growing demand for living in Telluride, Mountain Village mainly consists of upscale lodges, gorgeous condominiums and hotel resorts. Unlike downtown Telluride, Mountain Village residents don't even need to take the gondola to reach the Telluride Ski Resort — many condos and hotels are just steps away from the lifts.

While Mountain Village is known for its proximity to Telluride Ski resort, luxurious condos and endless unobstructed San Juan views, it's also known for its competitive housing market.

While these plans are not set in stone, the Mountain Village Design Review Board's decision to approve the Six Senses Mountain Village design plans is a big step towards seeing this vision come to life for the Mountain Village community and visitors looking to experience the beauty of Telluride.

At the end of November 2022, the Mountain Village Design Review Board approved a final design review for a Six Senses Mountain Village Hotel that has been on their radar for a few years. The plans were first approved in 2010, and there have been multiple revisions to the general plans over the last decade.

After multiple iterations of the building design were reviewed, the board unanimously passed and provided a recommendation to Mountain Village Town Council on the major subdivision and rezone associated with the hotel. The Mountain Village Town Council will review and consider the project in January.

The design motto that Six Senses hotels live by is "bringing the outside in." Six Senses Mountain Village’s design direction was inspired by the surrounding Mountain Village and San Juan Mountains.

The current hotel project will include 50 hotel beds, 20 condominiums, 31 lodge units, 18 employee dorms, two employee apartments, multiple restaurants and amenities as well as conference space and 22 underground parking spaces.

The plan also includes improvements to Village Center plazas, including back-of-house access, the Village Center trash enclosure and stair access from Mountain Village Boulevard to the Village Center Plaza area to provide a more seamless, aesthetic guest experience.

The overall project has a maximum height of 88 feet, 9 inches, to accommodate mountain views for surrounding buildings.

In addition, the proposed building design boasts a modern mountain luxury, with expansive balconies that take advantage of the 360-degree mountain views.

 

 

These plans are now in the hands of the Mountain Village Town Council, which will review the agenda in January 2023. We can expect some additional tweaks and changes to the overall design. Still, the board has shared their appreciation with the building design team for creating a blueprint that not only respects but also enhances the Mountain Village atmosphere.

 

As this project is still in the planning stages, the involved parties have not shared a timeline for when we can expect this new Mountain Village hotel to open.
